Udaipur, formerly the capital of the Mewar Kingdom, is a city in the western Indian state of Rajasthan. Founded by Maharana Udai Singh II in 1559, it’s set around artificial lakes and is known for its lavish royal residences. It is rated among the most scenic and romantic cities in the world. In the city palace, overlooking Lake Pichola, there are 11 palaces, courtyards, and gardens, famed for its elaborate peacock mosaics.

Udaipur City Tour

  • The City Palace is the largest palace complex in Rajasthan. On a hill surrounded by crenelated walls, this white structure stands majestically. The main gates to the palace are the ‘hathi Pol’, ‘Bara Pol’, and ‘tripoli gate’. The colorful mosaics in glass that decorate its walls give the courtyard its name, ‘Mor chauk’ or ‘peacock courtyard’. Blue and white ceramics distinguish the Chini Chitrashala. Other places to visit include Dilkush Mahal, Moti Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, etc.
  • One of the best examples of Mughal Rajput architecture is the Lake Palace or Jag Niwas. Lake Pichola’s turquoise waters give rise to it.
  • Udaipur’s largest and most splendid temple is Jagdish temple, built in 1651 by Maharana Jagat Singh I.
  • On fatehsagar’s embankment lies Saheliyon ki badi, “the garden of maidens”. These appear discreet and impeccable.
  • A museum of folk art, Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal exhibits a wide range of folk costumes, ornaments, puppets, dolls, and musical instruments.
  • Shilpgram is a wonderland of arts and crafts, nestled in Aravalis. The annual Shilpgram Utsav demonstrates Indian culture and art’s depth and multifaceted nature.

It also contains Sajjangarh, Jag Mandir, Pratap Memorial, Fatehsagar, Nehru Park, Lake Pichola, Eklingji temple (22 kilometers), Nagada (23 kilometers), Rajsamand Lake (66 kilometers), Rishabh Dev Ji (65 kilometers), Haldighati (40 kilometers) and Kankroli (65 kilometers).
